INCOME GENERATING ACTIVITIES

 

The main purpose of the program is to facilitate equitable socioeconomic empowerment of women and men and improve livelihoods through the provision of Income Generating Activities (IGAs) materials & equipment for the establishment or expansion of IGAs/micro businesses. Besides these, the programme also provides training to beneficiaries on Start and Improve Business (SIYB) packages and technical support to strengthen the Women in Business Association (WBA) activities.

Who qualifies?

  • Namibian citizens, women and men between the ages of 18-59 years;
  • The prospective IGAs beneficiaries should be unemployed or earn less than the minimum funding threshold of N$ 5,000.00;
  • The programme has a funding ration to equitably support women, youth and persons with disability;

How to apply

Calls for applications are done through radio and community mobilisation meeting, sensitising women, and men to embark on economically viable income generating activities. Application form is obtainable from the Ministry’s constituency and regional offices.

Application Process

While the Ministry at the National level makes budgetary provisions for the Income Generating Activities Support Programme, key functions/activities of this programme are decentralised to improve the provision of IGAs material and equipment to eligible beneficiaries in all 14 regions.

The functions/application process are as follows:

  • The annual IGAs application process is designed to take place within a period of 6-9 months including the official handover of materials and equipment to beneficiaries.
  • The distribution of forms takes place at the constituency level in collaboration with the respective constituency offices;
  • IGAs are subjected to an appraisal and shortlisting criteria to determine eligibility and viability
  • IGAs applications are tabled at the Regional IGAs Committee meeting for final recommendation and approval.
